2. Moodlehttp://moodle.org/

Moodle is a software package for producing Internet-based courses and web sites. It is a global development project designed to support a social constructionist framework of education.

Moodle is provided freely as Open Source software (under the GNU Public License). Basically this means Moodle is copyrighted, but that you have additional freedoms. You are allowed to copy, use and modify Moodle provided that you agree to: provide the source to others; not modify or remove the original license and copyrights, and apply this same license to any derivative work.

3. Multimedia Learning Object Authoring Tool- http://www.learningtools.arts.ubc.ca/mloat.htm

Multimedia Learning Object Authoring Tool enables content experts to easily combine video, audio, images and texts into one synchronized learning object. All assets are configured to be played back in a pre-configured order. Users do not need to perform any programming tasks, but rather going through a graphical user interface to generate the learning object.

The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes is freeware, and you may use it for any purpose or project you like. It is not open-source.

RELOAD is a project funded under the JISC Exchange for Learning Programme (X4L). The project focuses on the development of tools that are based on emerging learning technology interoperability specifications. These aims will be achieved through the production of a suite of software tools for authoring and delivery of standard-compliant learning objects incorporating comprehensive user guides and exemplar resources. The tools will be of significant value to the JISC and wider community, since they provide the crucial “missing link” which allows users to author and transfer learning objects, in specification compliant format, between authoring and design tools, local and distributed digital repositories, and VLEs.

This CourseLab is easy to use, e-learning authoring tool that offers programming-free WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) environment for creating high-quality interactive e-learning content which can be published on the Internet, Learning Management System(LMS), CD-ROMS and other devices. It is good as it doesn’t require HTML or programming skills. It is able to play on most browsers and no special player needed to play the created content.

Xerte Project is to produce interactive learning materials. Xerte is a fully-featured e-learning development environment for creating rich interactivity.

Xerte Online Tools is a server-based suite of tools for content authors. E-learning materials can be authored quickly and easily using browser-based tools, with no programming required.

It is aimed at content authors that assemble content using simple wizards, and they can easily collaborate projects.

Xpert is for sharing and re-using learning materials. Xerte Online Toolkits integrates with Xpert to make it simple to publish open content and for learners to use and content developers to re-use, adapt and repurpose. Other content authors can easily contribute resources via RSS.

It is an e-learning software to quickly and easily create engaging courses, presentations, quizzes and surveys. It consists of Presenter which is to create Flash-based presentations and e-learning courses from PowerPoint. Quizmaker is to effortless craft Flash-based quizzes, assessments and surveys. Engage is to add stunning interactive content to e-learning courses easily. Lastly, Video Encoder is to easily convert videos into the popular Flash video format.

4. Camtasia – http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html

Camtasia can be use to record PowerPoint presentations, websites, webcams and software demos easily. It is able to produce video in many formats or even by sharing it to YouTube. We can also easily edit screencasts by cutting, splicing, adding transitions and captions. It can be used to record presentation and lecture to let replay.

5. iSpring – http://www.ispringsolutions.com

iSpring Free is able to do Online presentations as well as e-learning courses. For online presentations, it can convert to flash format. Able to add Flash movies and Youtube videos, and keep PowerPoint animations, trigger animations, styles, audio, video in flash. Create a single Flash file with all resources embedded. For E-learning courses it can create SCORM compliant Flash courses.

For iSpring Pro it is able to record audio and video narrations, sync narrations with slides and animations. Publish for web, email and CD delivery. It also integrates with iSpring Quizmaker and Kinetics.

6. Yahoo Messenger – http://sg.messenger.yahoo.com/beta/win

Able to chat with friends easily through other services, instant message with friend or conference in a group. Able to chat with friends with high quality, full screen video. Able to watch web videos and view photos with friends at the same time, which would be good for discussion and make sure that everyone is clear at a point. Able to access conversation history, which would be good for discussion for projects and work.

Xerte Project offers full set of open source tools for e-earning developers, content authors that generate interactive learning resources.

  • Xerte – targeted at developers of interactive content who is determine to generate complex content that involve some scripting, and can be used to enlarge the potential of Xerte Online Toolkits that contain new tools for content authors.
  •  Xerte Online Toolkits – E-learning resources are capable of authoring swiftly and easy use of browser-based tools that does not required any programming. It is designed for content authors who will gather content with the use of simple wizards.
  •  Xpert – acts as a “storehouse” to share and reuse learning resources. Xerte Online Toolkits corporate with Xpert that makes it easy to publish open content for learners to use and content developers to re-use, familiarize themselves and repurpose. Other content authors can provide resources easily through RSS.

  • E-tutors – Get learners on Skype to have one-to-one session with them. It can be in a group sessions as it allow four person during the conference calling or even Festoon (a Skype plugin that can contain a maximum of 200 people with desktop sharing)

Podcasting refers to creating audio content and transferring it out into the world for everybody to listen to. Producing a podcast is simple as it requires a microphone that is built in to computers or laptops.

  • When the user has finished recording, he/she can make it accessible through the website for people to download or stream. By the way, user does not require iPod to do podcasting.
